Great ideas, not enough processing power. I really thought Tascam/Gibson was the end of it, but they turned it around from the Roland days, should gave know, Roland always had big ideas that fall short on the technology end like the Last Jupiter revival. Innovation continues to be off the charts. The sound engine has always been second to none and still is. The stability of old is back! At least for me it is.

I didn't like the idea of the update link when it first appeared on the scene, but LOVE IT now. I got the lifetime updates deal when it was available, which id great. If you like to track real Instruments, prefer to work in a pc and need stability look no further. I still prefer logic for quick composing and songwriting because their midi engine is more responsive but Sonar Plat Smokes Logic for mixing and editing. The only time I use protools now is to bounce people’s multi tracks from their templates.
I also prefer the speed of setting up a session and building out the templates. It’s far more stable than protools native and easier to mix with than logic. This version with the rolling updates has been out for a couple years and the lifetime update plan is a must have.

Sonar has had its ups and downs over the years just like Pro Tools. Now that you can get a pc with Thunderbolt and usb3 the gloves are off. It’s the most stable set up I’ve had to date. I mix 100+ songs per year with this system while running a slew of outboard inserts.
I have a two system set up with a super fast multitouch PC and a fully loaded Mac mini and run everything with a bridged Apollo 8 MKII system and high end custom AD/DA units for mix recapture and monitoring. I have been a Sonar user since version 4.
